The Art of Leadership (STL804) is a transformative course that examines leadership as a disciplined, intentional, and spiritually grounded process. The course adopts a causal developmental framework, beginning with a vision of excellence and progressing through sacrifice, responsibility, discipline, focus, time management, knowledge acquisition, decision-making, and emotional intelligence, culminating in spiritual empowerment.

Rooted in the values of Covenant University, the course integrates Bible-based leadership principles — particularly Dr David Oyedepo's covenant-based leadership framework as articulated in Leadership Ideology: A Covenant Perspective — with contemporary research in leadership studies, psychology, and organisational performance. It emphasises that sustainable leadership excellence requires not only competence and productivity but also character formation, emotional maturity, and spiritual strength.

Students will develop a personal philosophy of leadership and a structured approach to achieving excellence in leadership practice

STL805 — Leadership and Biographical Studies examines leadership through the systematic study of biographies, enabling students to understand how personal history, context, values, and critical decisions shape leadership effectiveness. The course integrates theoretical perspectives with real-life leadership journeys across political, social, religious, and business domains. Particular emphasis is placed on African leadership realities while drawing comparative insights from global figures.

This course equips students with the analytical tools to interpret leadership behaviour, extract enduring principles, and apply them strategically in contemporary contexts. It draws from the theoretical foundations established in STL803 (Leadership Theories and Practice), and the practical leadership disciplines developed in STL804 (The Art of Leadership) to engage with leadership as it is actually lived and practised.

The course is designed for current and aspiring leaders across careers, business, public service, non-profit, religious, and global organisations who seek to deepen their understanding of leadership through the rich, contextualised evidence that only biographical study can provide.

STL806: Ethical Leadership positions ethical leadership as fundamentally rooted in character, with ethics shaping beliefs, decisions, and actions. The course holds that true character transformation comes from within and that leadership effectiveness flows from this transformed inner life. Drawing on Ethics, the Heart of Leadership by Joanne B. Ciulla and selected ethical principles from Leadership Ideology: A Covenant Perspective by Dr David Oyedepo, the course integrates philosophical ethics, value-based leadership, and biblical moral reasoning.

A central premise of the course is that ethics informs beliefs and actions; character sustains ethical behaviour; and leadership is the outward expression of inward formation. Students will explore how ethical leadership can be intentionally cultivated, institutionalised, and sustained within organisations and societies
